It's Thursday, November 19, 05:00 and we are up and about!! This is Sossusvlei and we do not want to miss a thing! It is still dark and I'm amazed by the starry skies! Something I don't get to see often these days. Since we're staying at the Sesriem campsite, we get to enter the park at 5:15, an hour before the 'outsiders'. We started off driving very nicely and obediently at 60km/h but speed up as we are overtaken by just about everyone else, charging for Dune 45!

After about an hour we reach Dune 45 but decide to continue to the shuttle stop and on to Deadvlei by shuttle. Almost frozen we step off the shuttle and follow the rest up the dune in the direction of Big Daddy. Which is much further away than one thinks.

We slide down the side of the dune, empty our shoes and walk across the white sands of Deadvlei, taking pictures, amazed by the beautiful surroundings.

Leaving the dunes behind..... |
I then visit the most disgusting longdrop ever! before we enjoy a cup of coffee and continue to Big Momma on the other side of the valley. Again we walk up to where we think no man has ever walked before! (ja right!) and still have not reached the top of Big Momma!

And if the sand gets too hot ..... Look Ma! No hands! |
By now it's just past noon scorching hot! We walk back to Big Daddy to catch a shuttle back to the parking lot. Back at Sesriem we swim and relax in the shade before driving down to explore the Sesriem Canyon.

Late afternoon we drive to nearby Elim dune to watch the sun set over the dune surrounded valley.
Killing time on Elim dune while waiting for the sun to set.
Friday we again wake up at 4:00 and as the gates open, we leave for Dune 45. THE place to be at sunrise.

Much, much later in the day! Round about 7:00 in the morning!
